The film consists of a series of musical snippets and is directed by Mark Sandrich, who specializes in musical blockbusters. Each interlude is themed around American holidays and cleverly focuses on a pair of romantic rivals. The film was nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Music at the 15th Academy Awards in 1943! It features a roadside motel run by two young partners, Hardy and Haynor, who both fall in love with the same girl. Haynor (played by the famous dancer Fred Astaire) seems to have the upper hand in the pursuit of love, but ultimately loses out to Hardy (played by the well-known singer Bing Crosby). Hardy is a laid-back man who loves music; he retires to rural New England, and during the holidays, his farm becomes a social gathering spot...
