The mysterious owner of the mansion, Lionel Twain (played by Truman Capote), invites five world-famous detectives to a mysterious dinner at his castle. They are amateur detective Dick Charleston from New York (played by David Niven), Belgian detective Milo Perrier (played by James Coco), Inspector Sidney Wang from Shanghai (played by Peter Sellers), Miss Jessica Marbles from England (played by Elsa Lanchester), and Sam Diamond from San Francisco (played by Peter Falk). No one knows what deadly trap lies behind this unusually perilous invitation, but the five detectives still each bring a relative or friend to the mysterious mansion. However, Lionel does not make an appearance; instead, they are greeted by a series of carefully orchestrated murders. Truman Capote received a nomination for Best New Male Actor at the 34th Golden Globe Awards in 1977 for this film.
