"Big Year" is a competition for birdwatching enthusiasts where participants need to dedicate a whole year to record the number of bird species they observe, with the highest count winning. Brad, Stu, and Kenny are three avid birdwatchers. Brad (played by Jack Black) is a middle-aged slacker who decides to spend a large sum of money to participate in the 'Big Year,' prompting his parents to think he’s lost his mind; Stu (played by Steve Martin) is the president of a large company, and when he decides to drop a million-dollar deal to join the 'Big Year,' his assistant also thinks he’s gone crazy. This older and younger birdwatcher meet during the competition, quickly becoming friends and deciding to take on their toughest competitor - Kenny (played by Owen Wilson), the winner of the previous 'Big Year.' Only birdwatchers understand what it means to give up an entire year of career and life; the three 'bird friends' compete fiercely in the 'Big Year,' ultimately having to confront the issues in their lives... The film is adapted from Mark Obmascik's 1998 novel of the same name.
