In that short night, they lost themselves and each other—Sam deeply loved his grandfather and mother but was afraid of experiencing the same treatment again upon returning to the army, leaving him conflicted; Dean only thought about completing his service as soon as possible to marry his fiancée and lead a normal life, but he was deeply troubled by memories of how he had been ordered by his superiors to abuse Sam in the past.
